Appealing to communities across Leitrim to continue conserving water

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

Uisce Éireann is urging customers across County Leitrim to continue efforts to conserve water and protect supply.

Uisce Éireann is appealing to customers to be mindful of their water usage, allow supply to catch up with demand and enable reservoirs to fully replenish.

High usage can lead to pressure reductions which can impact the supply to customers.

Speaking about conserving water, Uisce Éireann’s Kevin Love said: “Our crews have located and repaired a number of leaks in Keshkerrigan, Corduff, Mohill and Treanmore in recent days which has helped manage our supply demand balance. However, we do need the support of our customers to conserve water where possible in the coming weeks, to ensure that we have water available for all users. "
“Any reduction that customers can make in their usage can collectively result in significant supply improvements for all homes and businesses.”

Localised restrictions will remain in place in parts of South Leitrim over the coming days from 9pm – 7am nightly.

Members of the public are urged to report any leaks in the public water network by contacting Uisce Éireann at 1800 278 278 or online at Report a Leak

Kevin added: “It’s important that we all consider our water usage and look at simple yet impactful ways to conserve water. It can sometimes be difficult to know where to start, but even small changes can make a significant difference.”

Over the last number of days, Uisce Éireann has been working to address supply interruptions to customers across County Leitrim following the impact of Storm Darragh.

While normal supply has returned to the majority of customers across the county, Uisce Éireann is urging customers to be mindful of their water usage, allow supply to catch up with demand and enable reservoirs to fully replenish.

Uisce Éireann’s Kevin Love, said: “It has been an extremely busy period for our engineers, supervisors, caretakers, and repair crews who have been working hard to restore water for our customers and I want to acknowledge those efforts.

The majority of customers should have their normal water supply returned by now. A small number of customers on higher ground or at the end of the network may continue to have some supply disruptions while reservoir levels recover. We understand the inconvenience these supply disruptions can have, and we want to thank impacted customers for their patience over the last number of days.”

Localised restrictions remain in place in parts of South Leitrim over the coming days from 9pm – 7am nightly.

Alternative water supplies remain in place at the following locations:

  • Drumshanbo: Food Hub
  • Ballinamore: The Square
  • Aughawillan: National School
  • Corrawallen: Drumlea National School
  • Killyvehy: McNamee’s Garage

Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from tankers and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure.
