Uisce Éireann crews will be arriving in Bennettsbridge this week, bringing with them the promise of a more reliable water supply for the local community.

Over 200 metres of aged water mains will be replaced by the end of May as part of Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme.

These important works will not only give local homes and businesses more confidence in their supply, but the new pipework will put an end to leakage of treated water into the ground.

Commenting on the project, Programme Manager at Uisce Éireann, Dave Murphy said: “Replacing these old water mains that are in poor condition will help prevent bursts, eliminate existing leaks, and reduce the volume of clean drinking water lost into the ground. This will improve the resilience of the network and give the local community of Bennettsbridge greater confidence in their water supply into the future.  I would like to thank the community in advance for their patience and cooperation as we carry out these essential works”

The improvement works will take place to the rear of the Top Oil petrol station and continue towards Station Road. The project will be carried out by Shareridge on behalf of Uisce Éireann.

This project in Kilkenny forms part of Uisce Éireann’s national Leakage Reduction Programme and will help us achieve our 2030 goal of a national leakage rate of 25%.

The National Leakage Reduction team has made great strides since 2018 when the leakage rate stood at 46%.
