Crew is continuing to work to restore water supply to normal levels across County Sligo in the aftermath of Storm Éowyn. While the majority of supplies have been restored, some customers across the county remain without water or are experiencing low pressure this evening.
Uisce Éireann crews continue to actively source and transfer generators to sites where power has not been restored. We are co-ordinating closely with the ESB to prioritise power restoration and we are also liaising with other agencies including the National Emergency Co-ordination Group and local authorities.
Two public water supplies in Sligo are operating on generators while waiting for mains power to be restored: the Riverstown PWS and the South Sligo PWS. Power has been restored to the Lough Easkey, Lough Talt and Foxes Den Water Treatment Plants and supply is returning to normal on those supplies. Customers in South Sligo may be experiencing some supply disruption or intermittent outages this evening (Monday) due to a power outage at the Lough Gara Water Treatment Plant in North Roscommon, which supplies some areas of South Sligo. It is expected that supply will return to affected areas in South Sligo by tomorrow morning (Tuesday). In the meantime, alternative water supplies have been made available for affected customers in Gurteen and Monasteraden. This is in addition to the alternative supply available at Cloonloo.
Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from tankers and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure. Uisce Éireann’s Kevin Love assured customers that Uisce Éireann is working to return the water supply to normal levels as quickly as possible “In the meantime, customers are urged to conserve water where possible in order to protect supply while the outages are resolved,” said Kevin. "It has been an extremely busy period for our engineers, supervisors, caretakers, and repair crews who have been working hard to restore water for our customers and I want to acknowledge those efforts.” Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communications from us for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours.
