Crew advise of planned water supply interruption in Rhode for pump upgrade

We are carrying out an essential upgrade at the Toberdaly Water Treatment Plant on Tuesday, February 11.

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

We are carrying out an essential upgrade at the Toberdaly Water Treatment Plant on Tuesday, February 11. The necessary interruption to supply will allow for the installation of a new pump, which will enhance the reliability of the water supply and result in significant energy savings.

To facilitate these works, customers in Jonestown, Thomastown, Ballybrittan, Ballyheashill, Monasteroris, Clonmore, Rathcobican, Rhode, and the surrounding areas may experience reduced water pressure. In some instances, particularly in higher elevations, intermittent water outages may also occur.

Supply interruption will occur on Tuesday, February 11, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Alternative water supplies will be in place at Rhode Village Hall during these works.

Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from tankers and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure.

Operations Manager for Offaly, James Joyce, said, "Every effort will be made to reduce the impact of these works on homes and businesses in the area. The essential upgrade to the pump at Toberdaly Water Treatment Plant is required to help protect the reliability of the supply to the local community while also improving the plant's energy efficiency. We understand the impact a supply disruption can have on customers and would like to thank the local community for their patience and cooperation during the works."

Following the works, normal supply may take three to four hours to fully restore to all areas as the water refills the network, especially for those on higher ground or at the end of the network.

As the water supply returns, some instances of discoloured water may be increased in the short term. For helpful tips on what to do following an outage, visit https://www.water.ie/help/supply/after-an-outage
