Crews continuing efforts to restore supply to Brosna Knocknagoshel Water Supply Scheme

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

Uisce Éireann is continuing efforts to restore normal water supply to customers on the Brosna Knocknagoshel Water Supply Scheme.

This follows widespread service disruptions in the area caused by recent weather conditions, power outages, and significant bursts on the network.

Specialist crews have successfully located and repaired two major bursts on the scheme this afternoon. These leaks occurred at the most eastern part of the scheme on the R576 near Glashacooncore Bridge, Brosna, and on the southern part of the scheme at Gneeves and surrounding areas. Water is expected to be restored to customers in both of these areas by 9pm tonight, Sunday.

Reservoir levels on parts of the scheme remain critically low, especially at areas on the periphery of the network. At the western end of the scheme at Meenleitrim, Crinny, Knockardty, Crag, Ahaneboy and surrounding areas, the main reservoir has still not recovered as a result of the weather-related disruption over the past week and the two significant bursts which have now been repaired. Although water is returning to these areas, the estimated restoration time for supply to customers is 9pm tonight, Sunday.

To support impacted customers, Uisce Éireann has organised an alternative water supply for the impacted areas at The Viewing Point at Glounsharoon, off the N21.

Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from tankers and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure. This supply will remain in place until water has returned to all customers.
Uisce Éireann’s Derek O’Toole assured customers that Uisce Éireann is working to return the water supply to normal levels as quickly as possible.

“In the meantime, customers are urged to conserve water where possible in order to protect supply while the outages are resolved.”
