Following works across the County over the weekend in the wake of Storm Éowyn, supply is returning to the majority of impacted customers.

Uisce Eireann repair crews are again on the ground across Co Tipperary today working to restore water supplies. Crews have been working tirelessly over the weekend to restore supply to impacted customers and deploying back-up generators to site where required.

All Water Treatment Plants supplying the County have had mains power restored, or are operating by temporary back-up generator until power can be restored. A significant burst on a water main in Ardfinnan was repaired on Friday with customers supply returned.

Some areas of supply across the county continue to experience water supply disruption. Full details including locations of alternative water supplies can be found on our website at www.water.ie.

We are co-ordinating closely with the ESB to prioritise power restoration and we are also liaising with other agencies including the National Emergency Co-ordination Group and local authorities.

Head of Water Operations at Uisce Éireann Margaret Attridge noted that while positive progress had been made overnight, the number of people experiencing loss of supply due to power outages remains significant.
“This unprecedented storm event has had a severe impact on our water and wastewater network nationwide. Our crews are on the ground in all impacted areas across the country working to restore water service as quickly as possible, but given the extent of the damage to the power network, it may take some time before full service is restored everywhere. We apologise to customers who have been without water for a few days and ask for the public’s continued patience during this challenging time.
“In locations where water supplies have been impacted for longer periods, we are deploying alternative water supplies. Details of these supplies and their locations are being posted across our website and social media channels as they become available,” she added.

Margaret is also urging customers to conserve water where possible in order to protect supply while the outages are resolved. There are some simple steps people can take to conserve their water, such as avoiding the use of water-intensive appliances during this time. Previous Updates

Uisce Éireann crews have been mobilised since earlier today and many remain on sites this evening, working to assess damage and restore water supplies as quickly as possible to areas across Co. Tipperary impacted by Storm Éowyn.

Uisce Éireann’s Regional Operations Manager Jim Fitzgerald said: “We are co-ordinating with the National Emergency Co-ordination Group, local authorities, the ESB, Civil Defence and other agencies as work continues to restore normal water supplies. Sixteen water treatment plants were impacted by power outages as a result of Storm Éowyn and several water boosting stations around the county. Significant progress was made throughout the day and power has since been restored to 4 treatment plants as well as a number of pumping stations. We had generators in place at a number of key sites and additional generators were mobilised and deployed to locations that lost power overnight.”

He added: “The number of people without water may increase as the widespread power outages at treatment plants and pumping stations continue to impact on supplies”
Areas impacted currently include parts of the Nenagh scheme which supplies Coolbawn, Kilbarron and several small areas supplied by booster stations; Lorrha area; part of the Dundrum Scheme and Holyford and surrounding areas. Customers supplied by Ardfinnan Water Supply have also been impacted by a major burst water main, crews have been on site since early today and continue to work into this evening to restore supply as soon as possible.

Alternative water supplies are available at the following locations:
•    Ardfinnan Regional Scheme: Barne Lodge, Ardfinnan Village (near council depot), Grange School, Goatenbridge (beside GAA pitch), Marlfield Village, Clonmel and Cahir near NCT Centre
•    Dundrum Scheme: Ponderosa Crossroads
•    Hollyford Scheme: Holyford Scheme

Power was restored to a large number of other areas impacted by outages overnight, and water will continue to be restored to other areas throughout the evening and into tomorrow. Customers may experience lower pressure as a result. Customers can go to www.water.ie and enter their address for details of localised issues and estimated restoration times.

In the meantime, customers are urged to conserve water where possible in order to protect supply while the outages are being resolved.

Regional Operations Manager Jim Fitzgerald is warning that service disruptions may last a number of days for some households and businesses, “This was an unprecedented storm event that has had a severe impact on our water and wastewater network nationwide. We are still assessing the full extent of the disruption to supplies. Our crews will work around the clock where it is safe to do so to restore water service as quickly as possible, but given the extent of the damage, it may take some time before full service is restored everywhere. We ask for the public’s continued patience during this challenging time.”
