Delivering a more reliable water supply for Allenwood

Uisce Éireann is delighted to continue its investment in County Kildare with work commencing next week in Allenwood as part of our National Leakage Reduction Programme to provide a more reliable water supply to the community and reduce high levels of leakage.
Uisce Éireann has prioritised almost 4km of water mains for replacement which will ensure a reduction in disruption from bursts and supply interruptions for customers, instilling greater confidence in the community.
Programme Manager for Uisce Éireann’s National Leakage Reduction Programme, Nicola Butler, is thrilled for this important project to begin.
“Replacing these problematic water mains will eliminate existing leaks and significantly reduce the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground. We would like to thank the residents in Allenwood for facilitating these works and working with us to provide a more secure and reliable water supply for generations to come."
Nicola continued: “This work will bring a range of benefits to the community including security of supply. It will also help us achieve our 2030 goal of a national leakage rate of 25%. The National Leakage Reduction team has made great strides since 2018, when the leakage rate stood at 46%. This essential work is part of a significant investment by Uisce Éireann to improve the water network across the country, prioritising investment where it is needed most enabling these communities to thrive.”
Working hours are 8am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday. Uisce Éireann expects these works to be completed next year.
To safely facilitate these works, a stop-go traffic management plan is required along R415 between Allen Reservoir and Allen Cross for the duration of the works. During working hours traffic will be monitored by traffic marshals, and outside working hours temporary traffic lights will be in use. To minimise the impact on motorists, the traffic management plan will be rolled out in several phases. The community can be assured that local and emergency access will be always maintained.
This significant project for the people of Allenwood will also involve laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers’ property boundaries and connecting it to the customers’ water supply.
GMC Utilities Group are carrying out the works on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
Since 2018, Uisce Éireann has invested more than €500 million to upgrade the underground water network across the country through the delivery of the national Leakage Reduction Programme. We are investing a further €250 million every year up to the end of 2030 - fixing leaks and replacing pipes to provide a more reliable water supply.
