A 1km stretch of old water mains have been replaced in Raphoe guaranteeing the town a much more reliable water supply.

Uisce Éireann crews have completed the old mains replacement works at Beltony Road, Raphoe and the new pipework will ensure a reduction in disruption of the water supply from bursts.

The work will also put an end to the leakage of treated water into the ground along the L2334 at Miltown/Figart, Raphoe.

Uisce Éireann’s Programme Manager Patricia Lowry thanked the community for their patience while crews carried out the important works.

“Replacing that old stretch of water mains has brought a range of benefits for our customers in the area including reliability of supply and improved water quality.

“Our crews worked to minimise disruption for the community, and we thank locals for their support while the works were ongoing.”

As well as the benefits for the local community, this project will also help Uisce Éireann achieve its 2030 goal of a national leakage rate of 25%. The National Leakage Reduction team has made great strides since 2018 when the leakage rate stood at 46%.
