Raw water is flowing again allowing full production at the plant to resume

Uisce Éireann crews have successfully completed repairs to a burst on a water main in Mallow.

Repairs were carried out following a major burst on a raw water main supplying the Mallow Water Treatment Plant at Ballyellis. Raw water is flowing again allowing full production at the plant to resume.

As the reservoir and network have been depleted it will take some time to refill over the course of this evening and overnight. Customers on the south side of Mallow may experience low water pressure while the network recharges.

Operations Engineer with Uisce Éireann, Denis Hayes, said: “While the necessary repairs have been completed, recharging of the reservoir and network will continue this evening and overnight. Normal supply for some customers may not return until late tonight or tomorrow morning, especially for those on higher ground or at the end of the network. I would like to thank the community in Mallow for their continued patience and urge everyone to conserve water to protect supply as it returns.”

Previous Updates

Uisce Éireann crews are working this evening to repair a major burst on the raw water main which supplies the Mallow Water Treatment Plant at Ballyellis.

Currently, the reservoir continues to supply all customers across Mallow town south and surrounding areas. However, as the plant is now out of production water supply to the area will reduce over this evening.

Every effort is being made to maintain water supply to as many customers as possible. Tankering to the reservoir is ongoing but will not be sufficient to maintain normal supply.

The raw water main which has burst is over 3m deep and in a difficult location meaning the repair is complex. Crews will return to the site at daylight to complete works and return normal supply to the plant for treatment.

Operations Engineer with Uisce Éireann, Denis Hayes, said: “Expert crews are working to carry out the necessary repairs and limit the supply interruption for customers’ in Mallow town south and surrounding areas. We regret any inconvenience this unplanned interruption may cause and thank the local community for their patience.”

Repairs are expected to be completed tomorrow afternoon. When production at the plant resumes it will take some time for the reservoir to refill and normal supply to return to all customers through tomorrow evening.
