Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

Water supply is returning to Uisce Éireann customers across County Cavan after power was restored to Cootehill and Kingscourt Water Treatment Plants.

Uisce Éireann’s Peter Gallagher thanked the ESB and water services crews who have worked tirelessly throughout the night to get both plants back in operation.

“There is some good news for customers in Cavan this afternoon however it will take some time for the network to replenish and a full supply to return to all customers served by Cootehill and Kingscourt Public Water Supply Schemes.

“Those affected by power outages in areas where supply is pumped will continue to experience a disruption to their supply until power is restored.”

Meanwhile, power outage at other plants across the county, due to storm Éowyn, continue to affect supplies in parts of:

  • Ballyjamesduff
  • Bailieborough
  •  Belturbet
  • Ballyconnell
  • Swanlinbar
  • Virginia
  •  Mullagh

“We continue to coordinate with other agencies to restore normal water supplies as quickly as possible. Once power is returned to an area it may take some time for normal water supply to be restored. Customers can go to www.water.ie and enter their address for details of localised issues and estimated restoration times.”

Previous Updates

As a result of high winds during Storm Éowyn, a number of areas in Cavan are experiencing power supply issues and water outages which can include no water and or low pressure. The following areas and surrounds are impacted including:

•    Ballyjamesduff Water Supply Scheme – Kilnaleck and Mountnugent
•    Mullagh Water Supply Scheme
•    Bailieborough Water Supply Scheme
•    Cavan Town Water Supply Scheme
•    Ballyconnell Water Supply Scheme
•    Swanlinbar Water Supply Scheme
•    Virginia Water Supply Scheme

Due to the severity of the storm, Uisce Éireann had activated its emergency response processes, including deploying generators at key sites where power outages were likely. Uisce Éireann crews are now on the ground assessing the full impact and working with the ESB to restore power and return the water supply to normal levels as quickly as possible.

We are also working closely with the ESB to return power to key water services sites as quickly as possible. Once electrical power has been restored, it will take time for the networks to fill and for water supplies to be fully restored.

In the event of a loss of supply, most properties should have adequate storage in their attic tanks for hygiene purposes for at least 24 hours. There are some simple steps people can take to conserve their water, such as avoiding the use of water-intensive appliances during this time.
