Crews restore water supply in the Brosna/Knockagoshel Scheme, Co. Kerry

Information below is relevant until further updates are provided here or on our Supply and Service Updates section

Water supply is returning to normal for impacted customers in Mid Kerry, following a power outage and operational issues at Brosna/Knocknagoshel Water Treatment Plant.

As the network refills and supplies return throughout the evening, customers in Ahaneboy may experience intermittent disruption or low water pressure until 7pm. Properties on high ground may experience short delays in water supply being fully restored. Customers may also experience short-term discolouration to their supply. For more information, customers can visit the Discoloured water section of our website.

Alternative water supplies will remain in place until 5pm today – Friday, 29 November, in the form of bulk tankers, which can be accessed on:

  • Glounsharoon viewing point
  • Knocknagoshel burial ground

Uisce Éireann’s John Fitzgerald said “We acknowledge the inconvenience caused by interruptions to the water supply and very much appreciate the community’s co-operation while our crews worked to carry out the repairs and restore supply”.

We are appealing to customers to check for leaks in the home and carry out necessary leak repairs to prevent avoidable loss of water. We are also asking farmers to check their service pipes, drinking troughs and outbuildings asking the public for their support to help reduce overall demand by conserving water.

Customers are urged to report loss of service or visible leaks to assist Uisce Éireann to identify bursts. Previous Updates

Uisce Éireann is working to restore water supply to homes and businesses following operational issues at Brosna/Knocknagoshel Water Treatment Plant due a power outage and ongoing issues following Storm Bert over the weekend. As a result, water supply to Knocknagoshel and surrounding areas are impacted.

Expert crews are on the ground working to restore normal water supply as quickly as possible to impacted customers. Repair works are scheduled to take place until 1pm on Friday, 29 November.

Alternative water supplies in the form of bulk tankers have been arranged and will be in place from 5pm on Thursday, 28th November at:

  • Glounsharoon viewing point
  • Knocknagoshel burial ground

Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from the tanker and to boil water before consumption as a precautionary measure.

Charlie O’Leary, Operations Lead for Uisce Éireann said: “We understand the inconvenience of an unplanned outage of this nature, and we thank customers for their support while our crews work to ensure that a normal water supply is returned to those impacted as quickly as possible.

Following repair works, it typically takes two to three hours for normal supply to be fully restored to all areas as the water refills the network, especially for those on higher ground or at the end of the network.

Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communications from us for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours.

The Uisce Éireann customer care helpline is open 24/7 on 1800 278 278 and customers can also contact us on Twitter @IWCare with any queries.
