Uisce Éireann crews have restored water to thousands of people across the country.
7,000 customers remain without water this afternoon, that’s down from up to 30,000 this morning. The areas currently affected are Tipperary and Limerick. However, water supplies for approximately 26,000 people in Wexford, Carlow, Kilkenny and north Kerry are at risk while reservoirs replenish and also due to demand.
Head of Water Operations Uisce Éireann, Margaret Attridge is appealing to people across the country to conserve water. She said, “Our crews, alongside ESB and Local Authority teams, have been working since early this early this morning to maintain and restore supplies. We are urging households, businesses and farmers to check for leaks and turn off water to outside pipes or unoccupied premises. Alternatively, people may consider setting the heating for these areas to come on periodically at a lower temperature. This allows warm air to circulate and will help to prevent pipes and tanks from freezing in the cold weather.”
Margaret added, “Uisce Éireann is also asking people to be mindful of water use and not to leave taps running as this will not necessarily prevent pipes from freezing and can impact on local water supply.”
We would encourage people to report any leaks or burst on the public water networks to Customer Care Team on 1800 278 278.
