Water supply restored in Fermoy, Co. Cork following Storm Bert

Water supply has been restored for impacted customers in Fermoy, Co. Cork and surrounding areas. Water production at the Fermoy Water Treatment Plant was temporarily suspended over the weekend due to raw water turbidity issues at the plant caused by Storm Bert. Our priority is the provision of clean safe drinking water to communities and the safety of water services staff who work to make that happen.
As the network refills and supplies returns throughout the day, customers at various part of the network may experience intermittent disruption or low water pressure. Uisce Éireann’s Niall O’Riordan said “We apologise for any inconvenience caused and would like to thank the community for their patience and understanding while crews worked in difficult weather conditions to restore supply.”
“We are appealing to customers to check for leaks in the home and carry out necessary leak repairs. We are also asking farmers to check their service pipes, drinking troughs and outbuildings. Repairing leaks can help to prevent issues like reduced water pressure or water supply disruptions. We are also asking the public for their support to help reduce overall demand by preventing avoidable loss of water and conserving water.”
Customers are urged to report loss of service or visible leaks to assist Uisce Éireann to identify bursts. The Uisce Éireann customer care helpline is open 24/7 on 1800 278 278 and customers can also contact us on X @IWCare with any queries.

Uisce Éireann is working to address supply interruptions being experienced by some customers supplied by the Fermoy Water Treatment Plant in Cork as a result of the impacts of Storm Bert. Our priority is the provision of clean safe drinking water to communities and the safety of water services staff who work to make that happen.
Due to raw water turbidity issues at the plant following Storm Bert, production at the Water Treatment Plant has been temporarily suspended. Customers in the following impacted areas may experience reduced pressure or loss of supply; Forest Glen, Barryscourt, Corrin, Barry’s Boreen, Balmace, Duntahane Park and surrounding areas. Uisce Éireann is working to restore the water supply as quickly as possible to impacted customers.
Niall O’Riordan, Operations Lead with Uisce Éireann said, “Some customers supplied by Fermoy Water Treatment Plant may be impacted by reduced water pressure and water outages. We understand how disruptive unplanned outages are and we regret the inconvenience caused. Subject to raw water turbidity reducing, we expect water supply should be restored by 6am Monday 25th November”.
As per best practice, most homes and businesses will have on-site water storage to provide a backup source of water for sanitation purposes. Following return of supply, it typically takes two to three hours for normal supply to fully be restored to all areas as the water refills the network, especially for those on higher ground or at the end of the network.
Vulnerable customers who have registered with Uisce Éireann receive direct communications from us for planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours.
