Ballyboden Water Treatment Plant Upgrade
Uisce Éireann has commenced an upgrade of the Ballyboden Water Treatment Plant in South Dublin.
Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Dublin City Council, has recently commenced works to upgrade the Ballyboden Water Treatment Plant (WTP). The water produced in Ballyboden is blended with water from Ballymore Eustace WTP and forms part of the Greater Dublin Area Water Resource Zone. It supplies customers in Dublin City, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown and South Dublin County.
This project represents an investment of €8.7 million by Uisce Éireann in providing a secure and reliable water supply.
Why are we upgrading the water treatment plant?
Uisce Éireann is upgrading the treatment processes at Ballyboden WTP to secure water supply from the plant, ensuring that it is safe to drink. This project will upgrade the filtration process at Ballyboden WTP to provide a safe and resilient water supply for the Greater Dublin Area.
The treatment plant will be offline until the works are completed in Q1 2024.
This upgrade project involves the delivery of high priority works to bring the WTP back into operation again. A second project is planned to commence in 2025, to further improve and enhance the WTP's treatment process.
Once completed, the works will improve drinking water quality, reliability and resilience of the water supply for the GDA.
Uisce Éireann is progressing this project in partnership with Dublin City Council, through our Delivery Contractor Veolia Water Ireland.
