Water Main Upgrade

Uisce Éireann has completed works to ensure Ballycastle residents and businesses enjoy increased water quality.

Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Mayo County Council, has completed essential water main installation works in Ballycastle to improve the water supply for 360 local residents and businesses.

These water main installation works involved connecting the Ballycastle Public Water Supply to the Ballina'Lisglennon Public Water Supply Scheme (Lacken Reservoir) to ensure the residents and business of Ballycastle have access to a secure and clean water supply. The works are being carried out by Source Civil Ltd on behalf of Uisce Éireann.

Benefits

The works carried out as part of this project:

  • Enhance drinking water quality for the residents and businesses of Ballycastle

  • Improve water security for the community

  • Allow for growth and development in the area

  • Enabled the supply's removal from the EPA's Remedial Action List (RAL)

Steps

  • Installing 6km of new interconnecting mains pipe from the existing Lacken Reservoir to the Ballycastle Public Water Supply
  • Decommissioning the existing water treatment plant at Ballycastle
