Fedamore Water Mains Replacement
National Leakage Reduction Programme
Uisce Éireann, in partnership with Limerick County Council has carried out leakage reduction works in Fedamore to provide a more reliable water supply and reduce high levels of leakage.
The works involved the replacement of 800 metres of problematic water mains with new modern pipes. The programme to replace the water mains in Fedamore commenced in late November. These works were carried out as part of Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme.
The works took place from Fedamore Church to a point 100m beyond the junction with the R511 at the eastern side of Fedamore.
The works also involved laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers' property boundaries and connecting it to the customers' water supply.
The works were carried out on behalf of Uisce Éireann by Ward & Burke Construction Ltd and were completed by February 2024.
What are the benefits of the works?
The benefits of the leakage reduction works include:
- A Reliable Water Supply - Replacement of water mains and service connections will reduce the instances of bursts and water outages and will ensure a reliable supply of water to customers and local businesses in the area.
- Reduced Leaks - Replacement of water mains and service connections will eliminate existing leaks and reduce the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground.
- Improved Operation and Maintenance - These works will deliver cost savings by providing improved water network operation that will require less maintenance in the future.
Will customers be affected by the works?
Areas of work were limited to short sections to minimise impact on customers. To deliver these works safely and efficiently a road closure was in place along the L1143-209. The road closure times was in place 24-hours a day from 08:00hrs Monday 20th November to 18:00hrs Friday 15th December. Traffic management wasin place in the form of traffic lights on the L1143-209 & L-1143-489 for the remainder of the works. Local and emergency traffic were always maintained.
The works involved some short-term water interruptions and the project team ensured that customers were given a minimum of 48 hours' notice prior to any planned water interruptions.
We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and works crews made every effort to minimise any disruption these necessary works cause.
