Glengarriff Water Treatment Plant Upgrade
Uisce Éireann has completed works to upgrade the water treatment plant in Glengarriff, Co. Cork to benefit over 350 customers supplied by the Glengarriff water supply scheme.
Uisce Éireann, working in partnership with Cork County Council, has completed an upgrade of the Glengarriff Water Treatment Plant. This project will benefit over 350 customers, ensuring the delivery of a clean, safe drinking water source and removal of the area from the EPA's Remedial Action List (RAL).
The water treatment processes at the plant were inadequate in protecting against the formation of elevated concentrations of Trihalomethanes (THMs) and Cryptosporidium. The completed upgrades have modernised and improved the water treatment process at the plant. The works were delivered by Glan Agua Limited on behalf of Uisce Éireann.
What was involved as part of this project?
As part of this project, Uisce Éireann installed:
- Inline pumping system
- Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) filtration process
- Ultraviolet (UV) disinfection system
- Monitoring instrumentation systems
- Control, telemetry and automation processes
What are the benefits of this project?
The upgrade works carried out as part of this project have:
- Enabled the removal of the Glengarriff Water Supply Scheme from the EPA's Remedial Action List (RAL).
- Ensured the delivery of safe, clean drinking water to residents and businesses in the surrounding area
- Improved water quality and water treatment standards
- Ensured compliance with current drinking water quality regulations.
