Old Dublin Road Water Mains Replacement
National Leakage Reduction Programme
Uisce Éireann, in partnership with Wexford County Council, has replaced ageing, problematic water mains in Old Dublin Road, Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford to provide a more reliable water supply and reduce high levels of leakage.
The works involved the replacement of over 2km of problematic water mains with new modern pipes. The programme to replace the water mains in Old Dublin Road, Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford commenced in mid-June. These works were carried out as part of Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme.
The section of works took place along the Old Dublin Road (L2008) between the Clavass Roundabout and Fran Cullen sales garage.
The works were carried by Wexford County Council in partnership with Uisce Éireann and were completed by mid October 2022.
What are the benefits of the works?
The benefits of the leakage reduction works include:
- A Reliable Water Supply - Replacement of water mains and service connections will reduce the instances of bursts and water outages and will ensure a reliable supply of water to customers and local businesses in the area.
- Reduced Leaks - Replacement of water mains and service connections will eliminate existing leaks and reduce the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground.
- Improved Operation and Maintenance - These works will deliver cost savings by providing improved water network operation that will require less maintenance in the future.
Traffic Management and Road Closures
In order to complete these works in a safe and efficient manner, a road closure is required along the Old Dublin Road (L2008) from mid-June to mid-October between the hours of 08:00 and 17:00 Monday to Friday.
The recommended diversion route for northbound traffic from Fran Cullen sales garage is exit the Industrial Estate via L6066 by JJ Bolgers Hardware and Builders and follow the traffic to the Blackstoops Roundabout. Alternatively, continue Southbound to the R772 via Old Dublin Road (L2008), taking the third exit for Gorey at the Blackstoops Roundabout.
Will customers be affected by the works?
Local and emergency traffic will always be maintained.
The works may involve some short-term water interruptions and the project team will ensure that customers are given a minimum of 48 hours' notice prior to any planned water interruptions.
We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and works crews will make every effort to minimise any disruption these necessary works cause.
