Tipperary Town Water Mains Replacement
National Leakage Reduction Programme
Uisce Éireann, in partnership with Tipperary County Council, has replaced ageing problematic water mains in Main Street, Tipperary Town, Co.Tipperary to provide a more reliable water supply, improve water quality and reduce high levels of leakage.
The works involved the replacement of approximately 300m of ageing problematic water mains with new modern pipes. The programme to replace the water mains in Main Street, Co. Tipperary commenced in late October 2022. These works were carried out as part of Uisce Éireann's National Leakage Reduction Programme.
The section of works took place along Main Street at the Waterford Road roundabout.
The works also involved laying new water service connections from the public water main in the road to customers' property boundaries and connecting it to the customers' water supply. Where the existing service connections on the public side are lead these were replaced as part of this improvement work.
The works were carried out on behalf of Irish by Shareridge Utilities Ltd and were completed by the end of November 2022.
What are the benefits of the works?
The benefits of the leakage reduction works include:
- A Reliable Water Supply - Replacement of water mains and service connections will reduce the instances of bursts and water outages and will ensure a reliable supply of water to customers and local businesses in the area.
- Reduced Leaks - Replacement of water mains and service connections will eliminate existing leaks and reduce the amount of clean drinking water lost into the ground.
- Improved Operation and Maintenance - These works will deliver cost savings by providing improved water network operation that will require less maintenance in the future.
- Improved water quality - Replacing existing old cast iron and lead from the public water network with new modern pipes will reduce the risk of contamination.
Will customers be affected by the works?
To facilitate safe delivery of the project and manage traffic levels on Main Street works will be carried out at night between the hours of 7.00pm and 6am in agreement with Tipperary County Council. Traffic management will also be in place on the N24 during this time to allow construction works to progress. Local and emergency access will always be maintained.
We understand that this type of work can be inconvenient and works crews will make every effort to minimise any disruption these necessary works cause.
