What's the latest update?

Final road closures will be required in the first half of 2024 to facilitate new wastewater connections for a number of houses, as well as permanent road reinstatement. All impacted stakeholders will be notified in advance.

Road closures:

To deliver wastewater connection works safely and efficiently, road closures have been granted by Kerry County Council. The road closures will be in place 24-hours a day on the below dates:

  1. L-2033 Coolcorcoran: 13 May to 17 May 2024.
  2. L-3018 Coolcorcoran Cross to Kilcummin Village: 20 May to 07 June 2024

Traffic flows will be diverted during this time with diversion routes signposted. Please see Traffic Management maps for each closure below. Local access and emergency access will be maintained.

What's involved in this project?

The project will include the:

  • Installation of a sewer network for Kilcummin.
  • Construction of a pumping station at Páirc Chuimín.
  • Construction of a short rising main and a gravity sewer to deliver the wastewater from Kilcummin to the collection network in Killarney for treatment at the Killarney Wastewater Treatment Plant.

What are the benefits of this project?

This project will provide an effective and efficient wastewater collection system for the village of Kilcummin and provide for the treatment of this wastewater in an appropriate manner. This, in turn, will:

  • Improve water quality in the River Deenagh and Lough Leane.
  • Provide scope to facilitate future development within the catchment.
  • Ensure compliance with EU and Irish wastewater regulations.
  • Provide for social and economic growth within the Kilcummin area.

Frequently Asked Questions

Any person or business wishing to get a new connection to public wastewater collection infrastructure must contact Uisce Éireann. You can make a pre-connection enquiry in order to establish whether a connection to the public network is feasible, where the connection can be made and any associated charges. Uisce Éireann is also encouraging all developers to submit their designs in advance of applying for planning permission, to ensure that their proposal is in compliance with the new Uisce Éireann Standard Details and Code of Practice. For more information please visit www.water.ie/connections.

There is a change to the pipeline route previously proposed, in that part of the pipeline will now continue in public roads, including the Kilcummin and Killarney Roads, instead of going through some private lands.
