Uisce Éireann carrying out a major upgrade of the Vartry Water Treatment Plant (WTP) and we are committed to consulting with and keeping the local community informed with respect to these works. Once completed the upgrade will secure the long-term future of the water supply for 200,000 people in Wicklow and south Dublin and ensure it meets all drinking water standards.
As part of the upgrade works, Veolia Water Ireland, on behalf of Uisce Éireann, will be installing a siphon main between the Vartry Reservoir and the Vartry WTP. Installation of this pipeline will require closure of the R764 at the location of the bridge between the reservoir and the WTP.
Wicklow County Council has granted a road closure of the R764 for a period of four weeks to allow installation of this main. The road surface will be fully reinstated on completion of installation works.
Traffic diversion routes
The road closure will be in place between Tuesday 6 August to Friday 6 September. View our map of the traffic diversion routes.
The traffic diversion routes will be clearly sign-posted during the R764 road closure as follows:
- Detour No.1 - Travelling from Ashford to Roundwood
Use the R764 to the Vartry reservoir, and then join the L5061 heading north-west to meet the R765 then west to Roundwood or east to Newtown Mount Kennedy. - Detour No.2 - Travelling from Roundwood to Ashford
Use the R765 to exit Roundwood towards Newtown Mount Kennedy, then turn right onto the L5061 travelling south-east along the Vartry reservoir to meet the R764 to Ashford.
We apologise for any inconvenience this necessary upgrade work causes.
